Mamaku is one of my favourite brainchild projects. Authentically crafted Gemere for the lovers of all things tradition in a bottle. Home is where Mom is. From her baking to her unique yet perfect dishes. True to the slogan, Nobody makes it like Mamaku! Designed to appeal to a young working class demographic that do not have time to make fresh homemade Gemere but love the unique taste of home that comes with the beverage. All the design elements are inspired by African mothers and their nurturing presence in our lives. Earth tones that create a haven of warmth and comfort, Xhosa inspired step and repeat pattern, with strategic use of icons and silhouettes all to communicate the feeling of a mothers love in a brand.

Problem
I was tasked with finding a gap in the ever-growing trend of craft products and developing a new craft beverage brand that references the contemporary South African visual language and aesthetic.
Insight
South Africa is a country that is rich in culture. A large aspect of this is the craft beverages that are a part of our culture. Beer, such as Umqombothi and drinks such as Gemere are present at every family gathering and form part of our identity.
Concept
Creating a non-alcoholic and alcoholic range of the ever-loved South African craft ginger beer. Celebrating the essence of culture and how unique and authentic it is. Similar to how you experience uMamaku and her Gemere, because nobody does it like us, the lovers of culture.
A Mother’s Love is for Sharing!
